Travelling to Alba

Here is a quick travelling guide to reach Alba by different means of transport. For people using public transport the general suggestion is to reach the train station of Torino Porta Susa and from there take the direct train service (see below). Links where to find more information are also provided and if you need more guidance please contact the organisers at [email protected]. Please notice that public transport in Italy is currently available only to fully vaccinated people and FFP2 or above protective masks are mandatory. Travelling by Train

The main public transport to reach Alba is the train. Hourly trains are available from Turin (Torino Porta Susa) leaving at 35 minutes past the hour with the first service being at 6:35 in the morning and the last at 19:35. Hourly trains are also available for the return journey leaving at 7 minutes past the hour with the first service being at 6:07 in morning the and the last being at 20:07 in the evening. The journey time is about 1 hour and 18 minutes with the ticket costing € 6.00 per journey. On Sundays the service is reduced to one train every two hours. IMPORTANT UPDATE: There will be maintenance works on the railway between Turin and Alba commencing on May 17 and ending on May 26. Trains will be disrupted with journeys taking 2h and 15 min approximately and with a change with a replacement bus. To help people to reach Alba the conference is organising some shuttle busses on May 24 from Torino Porta Susa to Alba. Travelling by Plane

Turin Caselle Airport

The closest airport to Alba is Turin Caselle, located at about 90 km from Alba. The airport is connected to all main international hubs in Europe and it is served by all major airline as well as most of the budget ones.

The fastest connection between the airport and Turin city centre/Torino Porta Susa train station is by bus. Tickets can be purchased in the arrivals area and the bus stop is just outside of the arrivals terminal. Full informations about the service with all bus time tables can be found here. Car rental is also available at the airport and the journey to Alba is about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Please note that the fastest route to Alba has a toll. Please refer to a sat-nav for accurate directions.

Milan Malpensa Airport

Milan Malpensa is the biggest airport in the North of Italy. It is well connected to all major hub in Europe as well as having long haul connections.

For people using public transport from this airport, the suggestion is to reach the train station of Torino Porta Susa and after travel to Alba as described in the section above Travelling by Train. The suggested option is to use the bus to reach directly Turin. The service is managed by Autostradale and more info can be found on the dedicated Malpensa airport page. Booking and the exact time table for the service can be found here (Please select Milano [Aeroporto di Malpensa] as departure and Torino [Autostazione-C.so Bolzano] as destination, which is just in front of Torino Porta Susa). Journey is about 2 hours at a cost of about €22.00.

Alternatively, there is a direct train connection from the airport to Milan main train station (Milano Centrale). This service is called Malpensa Express with a half hour frequency. The journey to Milano Centrale is about 54 minutes costing €13. From Milano Centrale is possible to take a train to Alba with a change in Torino Porta Susa. Two options are available for trains between Milan and Turin: a high speed train with a journey of about 50 minutes and a slow option taking 1 hour and 40 minutes. Time table, booking and prices can be obtained via the Italian State Railways website. Use Milano Centrale as departure and Alba as arrival station.

Car rental is also available at the airport and the journey to Alba is about 2 hours . Please note that the fastest route to Alba has tolls. Please refer to a sat-nav for accurate directions.

Travelling by Car

The fastest way to arrive to Alba by car is to use the motorway system. Alba is linked to the motorway network via the A33. The other closest motorways are the A6 from Turin to Savona and the A21/A4 from Turin to Trieste. The A21/A4 is part of the European Route E70 that connects multiple European counties from La Coruña in Spain up until the city of Poti in Georgia passing by France, North of Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Rumania, Bulgaria, and Turkey. The A21/A4 connects to the A33 at the “Asti Est” junction.

Please note that all motorways in Italy, which are generally labelled using a light green colour, are toll roads.
